Remember the Horses

Today our group went to the Washita Battlefield Memorial Site.
It was a hot hike to the site by the little creek.

If you ever go to the site grab a map and info guide. They are really great!

Here is part of the hike out to the site. It was beautiful being in nature that isn't disturbed by humans.

On our hike I found a coyote track... I think it is a coyote track anyways.

This is Moses. He is the grandson of a survivor of the Washita Battle.Artsy shot of Moses while he was talking. He has so many interesting stories.

Also at lunch he sang two songs for us. It was wonderful to hear a long forgotten language.

Lastly I wanted to leave everyone with something that a child wrote. "Remember the Horses." If you don't know that it means google Washita Battle and read what happened to Black Kettle and his clan.

Life is Uncertain, Eat Dessert First

Good Evening!
Today has been a very long day! Up at 6 am and out at 7 am. Then off to hike for almost 5 miles.
This is our bus for the week. With only 21 people, with driver, its awesome!
Welcome to Sulphur Springs, Oklahoma. Yes, it smells like its name. It was so beautiful here. The photo above is the Pavilion Spring. It use to be called the "7 Sisters"

This is a close up of the flow. Our ranger emptied his water bottle and filled it up with this water. I am NOT that brave.

This is Jennifer with our project for the day. We made a mini world, and artesian well. It was sponge, straw and bag with tape!

This is the Vendome Well that flows down to form wading pools. It has a STRONG sulfur smell, and taste according to others.

This is the Linclon Bridge. It was so pretty looking over the edge into the water.

And introcing Socrates! He is the masscot for Carla's classroom.

On our way up the hill on one of the hikes we saw students working. This is a group from the area with SCC, Student Conservation Corps. They help to keep the parks and reserves looking nice and safe!

Once I got to the top, I was the next to last one :(
From this point you could see all the way to town. The white dot in the top, middle of the green is the water tower for the town.

A few of us were brave (or crazy) enough to walk across the stream. It was cold, but wonderful after the heat of walking. There is another picture of all 5 of us on another camera that I will post later in the week.

Tomorrow we are off the Wichita Mountains Wildlife Refuge!

Teddy Roosevelt's Dreams

So this is the end of Day 1 of trip. It is 11 pm and we have to be up at breakfast at 6:30 am, and on the bus at 7am.
Tonight we stay at .....
Out side we saw this football player? Can't decide if its a man or monkey..... Oh and this was out trip out, just Jennifer and me.
The potato was 25 oz, and was great!

Tomorrow we are off to Travertine Nature Center and Sulphur Historical Museum. I get to go see parts of Oklahoma that I have never been to before! I am really excited and ready to go tomorrow morning.

Good Night All!

Last Week of Class and Preparing for TRIP

This is the last week of my summer class. Creative Experience has been a blast, and at times crazy!! The past week our class has been hard at work with writing papers, creating paper maches, and working on lesson plans.

For paper mache I am making a giant tea set. Here is the first teapot that I made. Like some of our projects it didn't make it to the final stages. :(

I will upload more pictures when it is finished.

I cannot believe I will be leaving for OKAGE in 10 DAYS. Tonight I am going to go get luggage, so I can start to pack. I have never had my own luggage (kinda weird?) Soon I should be getting the iternary for the trip.

First Week of Summer Class

Good morning!

Today is the first Friday of summer classes. This week has gone by too fast.

In the past week of class we have done some many projects. The two pictures below are of two that our Creative Experience class has done over the past few days.
  • The first one if my Biography Person. I made Ruby Bridges. If you do not know about her go look her up! She is a very brave little girl, who grew up into a powerful woman.
  • The second one is of our classroom mini-mes! Mine is the second from the right on the right side (purple shirt). I think that we are missing a few people in it though. We have 28 (I think?) students in the Cameron Secong Year class as of now!

I will leave you with a quote.

"Our Ruby taught us all a lot. She became
someone who helped change our
country. She was part of history, just like
the generals and presidents are part
of history. They're leaders, and so was
Ruby. She led us away from hate, and she
led us nearer to knowing each
other, the white folks and the black folks."
